I was pulled over in upstate NY the other day while on vacation. Officer was friendly and I was very compliant and willing to work with him.

He let me off with a warning but told me my license was coming back as 'dropped'. He was unaware of what this means and so do most people I have asked about it. Anyone have info that can point me in the right direction? I have tried calling the DMV numerous times and have been on hold for an hour every time before giving up.

Before I drive down there and get in more trouble was hoping for some help. I did a Google search and found some info in the links below.Two NJ drivers have experienced the same thing as you in VA and NH, in 2015 and 2012, respectively. In both cases, the cops had no idea what the 'dropped' status was either. In the 2012 NH incident, the NJ driver went to the MVC and they also did not know.

In the 2015 VA incident, the NJ driver went to the MVC as well, and by that time, they had figured it out: the 'dropped' status means that you, at one time, had a probationary license (NJ grants probationary licenses at 17, and full licenses at 18).
